30km drive south of Hastings, off State Highway 2, a house is nestled into a hill between Hawke’s Bay and the Ruahine Ranges. With panoramic scenes from all angles, the house unfolds in steady, horizontal planes, that reach around a central courtyard. Thick concrete walls with punched windows limit traffic noise to the east, while selectively framing views of Poukawa Lake. The social areas line the courtyard and spill outdoors with full height glazing out toward the steep, productive west bank.
