About

MOAA is a design-lead practice of Hamilton origin, versed in family homes, multi-residential, commercial and education projects. Steered by founders Simon Harrison and Tim Horne, the team has managed to shape a series of environments and cultural works throughout Aotearoa. This platform is a repository for reflection, current ideation, works in progress, and completed projects.

Ā mātou mahi

Approach

ESD

We are currently grappling with the immediacy of climate change and our position within the broader construction industry. Beyond our office conduct, we are posing questions around the embodied and operational impacts of our built and unbuilt works.

Tangata Whenua

We continue to listen to stories of land and people. As our Māori clients allow us the privilege to instil kaupapa through the built environment – a learning which has afforded enduring friendship.

Collaboration

We are leaning into environments as our participation in this space has summoned reflection and insight into the spatial qualities of collaboration and community. We tend to soften the edges of our children’s spaces – this should not be forgotten when shifting scales or typologies – we are all children, in need of connection.

Housing

Several houses we are tending to operate as grounds for exploration. We begin with the rudiments of architecture, site and occupant are given space to uncover appropriate endings, we do not push prepossessed answers. Since these two subjects are infinitely unique, we are excited by the potential of beginnings.

Learning Environments

Our work in learning environments brings insight and reflection into the spatial qualities of collaboration and community. These, soften the edges and create a platform for curiosity.

ESD

Tangata Whenua
